Benefiting From Sungei Kadut Transformation
Sungei Kadut has a Master Plan to transform into an eco-district and will soon become a hub for new emerging businesses like as agri-tech, environmental technology, waste management and recycling, metal, timber and furniture industries. The area will be divided into four new precincts:
- Agri-food technology
- Sungei Kadut North
- Sungei Kadut Central
- Sungei Kadut South
Sungei Kadut is now home to industries such as timber, furniture, building, and trash recycling. In order to cut costs and maximize resources, these will be relocated to JTC Corporation's specialized buildings.
Companies and research and development (R&D) centers, as well as high-tech production segments like as indoor farming, aquaculture hatcheries, and alternative protein makers, will be housed at the new 18-hectare (ha) Agri-Food Innovation Park.
Sungei Kadut will also be transformed for community use outside of office hours. It would transform into a location for residents and the general public to unwind on weekends and evenings, including farmers' markets and farm-to-fork restaurants.
The facelift will take around 30 years to complete. First phase started with the relocation of furniture and related industries into Trendspace (from JTC). The timber, metal and machinery industries will move into TimMac, while recycling firms will shit to Kranji Green.
Northern Agri-Tech and Food Corridor
The Northern Agri-Tech and Food Corridor will link the upcoming Agri-Food Innovation Park in Sungei Kadut Eco-District with aspects of the ecosystem in the north, including as farms, Republic Polytechnic (which has developed a relevant diploma program), and Woodlands Regional Centre business spaces.
Agri-Food Innovation Park will be around 18 hectare and is planned to be home to companies and research and development centres catering to high tech production segments including indoor farming, aquaculture hatcheries and alternative protein manufacturers.
The plan is to develop a model of urban food production that can be exported to the region, with the objective of Singapore becoming a leading urban agriculture and aquaculture technology hub. This will also help to improve the productivity of the local farms and strengthen Singapore food security.
